th (9)Hemorroids are the swollen vascular structures in the anal canal.  Anatomically, this anal canal help to control the stool and acts like a cushion.

There are cases of hemorroids that can be treated at home but you have to always remember that, not all people who have hemorroids will dependent on home reliefs.  It is still important that you need to consult you doctor to prevent from any infection or pain.

Hemmorrhoids happen when the veins in your anal area are subjected with too much pressure that may lead to constipation. Some of the causes for hemorrhoids include:

  • Sitting in the toilet for a long period of time
  • Overweight or obese
  • Anal intercourse
  • Chronic constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Aging
  • Pregnancy

Internal hemorrhoids happen in the rectum which is most of the time being neglected th (11)because they usually do not cause any discomfort.  External hemorrhoids happen in the anal opening and while internal hemorrhoids do not cause any discomfort, external hemorrhoids can cause a lot of discomfort and pain.  They can be felt and be seen.  Here are the symptoms of hemorrhoids:

  • Blood in the stool – this can be a sign of a serious problem.
  • A lump near the anal opening, which is painful and sensitive
  • Feeling the urge to have a bowel movement even when there is no stool
  • Leakage of feces
  • Irritation and itchiness around the anus
  • Swelling around the anus
  • Passing stools that are black, tarry or maroon in color

These symptoms maybe serious and you need further examination by your doctor.

If you have external hemorrhoids, you can feel lumps in your anus.  It is sometimes itchy and painful.

The food you eat can also cause hemorrhoids.  These are:

  • Spicy food
  • Alcohol
  • Caffeinated beverages like coffee
  • Pasta
  • Bakery products like white bread, pastries, cakes and pies

If there are food that may cause hemorrhoids but, there are also food that can help you develop hemorrhoids and these are:

  • Spinach
  • Broccoli
  • Brown Rice
  • Raisins / Prunesth (12)
  • Breakfast cereal
  • Oats
  • Grains
  • Whole grained bread
  • Oranges
  • Papaya
  • Apples
  • Potatoes
  • Beans
  • Nuts
  • Peas
  • Vinegar

Also, these can help preventing hemorrhoids:

  • Eating food with lots of fiber. Fiber food helps soften the stool and increase its bulk, which helps reducing the strain. Flaxseed, psyllium, carob, acacia fiber can help reduce the bleeding and irritation.
  • Place a small ice pack in the irritated area for several minutes until pain and th (13)sweeling are gone.
  • Exercise for 20-30 minutes a day can help to stimulate bowel function.
  • A well cushioned seat can help reduce the swelling.
  • Use an ointments or creams that protects and will not cause any skin irritation. Use an ointment with zinc oxide.
  • Ointment or cream with coconut oil and Vitamin E are also good for your skin..
  • Chamomile and calendula herbs.  You can apply it directly, or include it in the ointment that you are using.
  • A warm bath helps relieving stress and irritation.  You can add epsom salts in your bath.
